The Keyboard devices are categories by:-

• General purpose keyboard 
• Special Purpose keyboard 
• key to disk, key to tape

1. GENERAL PURPOSE KEYBOARD

The most familiar means of entering information in to a computer through typing writer keyboard. That user to enter alphabet and numeric information directly. 

A general purpose keyboard used today has one zero one (101) key with traditional (QWERT) lay out. Now a days it is coming with one zero four to  one zero eight (106 to 108) Number of key. It is contains of the following things.

Alphanumeric key 

This is the contains of keys for English alphabet (a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z) and number ( 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) and special symbol like (!,@,#,$,%,^,&,*,(,),{},-,_,+,=,[],:,;',",|,\,/,?).

FUNCTION keys

F1 : This key is used to open help center

F2 : This key is used to rename folder or file

F3 : This key is used to search application on computer or laptop

F5 : This key is used to refresh screen

F6 : If you are searching on web browser, and want to jump to any URL, then F6 will work.

F7 : It is used to check grammar correction

F8 : This key is used to go in safe mode

F11 : This key is used for full screen

F12 : Rename or save as the file 

Other Special Keys

SHIFT        

                    

It is used to capital letter in first letter & selects the line. Shift & arrow key will be give the select of line.

SPACEBAR

It is used to enter a space at the cursor location.               

CTRL(control key)

It is used in conjunction with other keys to provide added functionality on the key board. Example –(CTRL + S =Save)

ALT

 Like ctrl used to expand the functionality of the key board. Examples- Alt+ F4=close.

TAB

It is used to move the cursor to the next tab position defined.

BACKSPACE

It is used to move the cursor position to the left & also delete the character in the position.

ENTER

Go to the next line.

CAPSLOCK

It is used to write all the letters in capital. When it is ‘on’ a light will appear in the key board all English letter capital .

NUMLOCK

It is used to the number press on the numeric key pad and light will be ‘ON’.

INSERT

It is used to over write more data enter.

DELETE

It is used to delete all the cursor location.

HOME

It is used to the line screen or document depending on the software move cursor.

END

It is used to move the cursor end the work area.

PAGE UP

It is used to display the previous page in view on screen.

PAGE DOWN

It is used to display the next page in view on screen.   

 ESC( Escape)

It is used to the negative current command.

PRINT SCREEN

It is used to print the display on the screen.

ARROW KEY

These key are also used to control the cursor to up (⇧), down (⇩), left (⇦), right (⇨), and position of during working.

 

SPECIAL PURPOSE KRY BOARDS

These are stand lone data entry system used for computers displayed for special application. These typically special purpose keyboard to enable faster data entry. It is also used in ATM( Automated Teller Machine), POS ( Point of sell) terminal. Airport & railway reservation center.

KEY- TO- DISK, KEY- TO- TAPE

There are individual standalone, workstation used for data entry only. These processor based work & small monitor. The function of process is checking the accuracy of data being entered. The monitors are a display data being enter.
